Piazza Navona

Certainly the most elegant and joyful Roman square, built on the ashes of the Stadium of Domitian, the piazza is still a meeting place for Romans and tourists.

Used in antiquity for athletic contests and competitions of various kinds, now the square hosts every day street artists, painters and portraitists.

The central fountain is the Fountain of Rivers, by Bernini, which is right in front of the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone, by Borromini.
