Ostia Antica was the harbour of the city of Rome, situated at the mouth of the Tiber. Founded in the third century BC it was developed by Vespasian in the first century AD and reached a population of about 50.000. At the fall of the empire, the city was completely abandoned and forgotten in the marsh for centuries.
Today the huge archeological site offers not just buildings, like the theatre or the Termae, but a complete and significant design of a typical ancient roman city.
